Cellular (2004) — watch online this propulsive thriller directed by David R. Ellis, streaming on iFILM. Kim Basinger, Chris Evans, and Jason Statham lead a cast built for a story that runs almost entirely on adrenaline and a dying phone battery.

Jessica (Basinger) is snatched from her home and locked in a stranger's attic. The phone on the wall is smashed. She manages to splice two bare wires together and dials at random — and the call lands on Ryan (Evans), a twenty-something with no reason to get involved and every reason to hang up. He doesn't. Over the next hour or so, Ryan tears across Los Angeles trying to locate a woman he's never met, while her husband and son are already being hunted. Every time the signal drops, the stakes double.

Weaving through the chaos is Detective Mooney (William H. Macy), a low-key veteran on his last week before retirement who stumbles into something much bigger than a routine kidnapping. Jason Statham plays the lead kidnapper with controlled menace. The script, by Larry Cohen, squeezes every drop of tension from a single gimmick and never lets up.
