Synopsis

Saw (2004) is a horror thriller from Twisted Pictures, directed by James Wan — watch it online on iFILM. Wan and co-writer Leigh Whannell made it for $1.2 million, shot in eighteen days, and turned a single grimy room into the foundation of a billion-dollar franchise.

Two strangers wake up shackled at opposite ends of an abandoned bathroom. A dead body lies between them, a gun and a hacksaw within reach. Dr. Lawrence Gordon (Cary Elwes) gets instructions on a cassette tape: kill the other man before six in the morning or his wife and daughter die. His fellow prisoner Adam (Leigh Whannell) has his own tape, his own set of rules. Neither knows who put them there. Detective Tapp (Danny Glover) has been chasing the answer for years — the press calls the killer Jigsaw, and nobody has caught him yet.

Tobin Bell's John Kramer became one of genre cinema's most replicated antagonists, largely because Wan built dread through problem-solving rather than jump scares: the trap mechanics force characters to make choices, and that's what keeps the tension running long after the first shock. The film grossed $104 million worldwide and sparked nine sequels. Stream Saw (2004) in full on iFILM.
