The Dreamers

The Dreamers (2003) — watch online on iFILM: a drama by director Bernardo Bertolucci, a French-Italian-British-American co-production distributed by Fox Searchlight Pictures. Michael Pitt plays Matthew, an American film student in Paris who meets twins Théo and Isabelle during the early weeks of the 1968 student upheaval.

While barricades go up across the Latin Quarter, the three of them retreat inside an apartment and lock the outside world out. They screen old movies, act out scenes from Godard and Keaton, and slowly erase the lines between friendship, obsession, and something harder to define. Eva Green and Louis Garrel play the siblings; cinematographer Fabio Cianchetti keeps the film grain warm against the winter light. The screenplay was written by Gilbert Adair, adapting his own novel The Holy Innocents.

Bertolucci released two cuts — the theatrical version and the director's NC-17 edition. The film earned a BAFTA nomination for best cinematography. Watch The Dreamers (2003) in full online on iFILM.
