Synopsis

Witness for the Prosecution (1957) is Billy Wilder's courtroom thriller — watch online on iFILM. Based on Agatha Christie's stage play, the film pairs Tyrone Power and Marlene Dietrich in a case that seems to rewrite itself every thirty minutes. United Artists released it in 1957; critics and audiences haven't stopped talking about it since.

Aging barrister Sir Wilfrid Robarts — Charles Laughton, Oscar-nominated for the role — agrees to defend Leonard Vole, accused of murdering a wealthy widow. The evidence is thin. Then Vole's wife Christine takes the stand, and nothing in the room stays the same. Elsa Lanchester plays Sir Wilfrid's exasperated nurse-minder in a performance that steals whole scenes without trying.

At 116 minutes it never wastes one. The American Film Institute placed it among the greatest U.S. films ever made. Stream Witness for the Prosecution (1957) online on iFILM.
